Ps. 114—118, 135, 136
Ps. 145—150
Neh. 13:1—22; Ps. 92; Neh. 13:23—31
Joel 1:1—3:21
Is. 56:1—59:21
Is. 60:1—66:24
Zech. 9:1—10:12
Zech. 11:1—13:9; Zech. 14:1—21

If you don’t have the Chronological NKJV, that’s fine. Read the above scriptures as they are listed in any version you prefer. I use the NKJV, CJB, TLV, and cross-reference it with other versions. Words do matter, especially when they help you connect with the Lord.

Before you read…

Stop and pray to the Lord, ask Him to guide you to exactly where He wants you to dig deep. Some weeks you’ll read for an overview of scripture. Other weeks you’ll go down amazing rabbit holes for answers and directions. While other weeks one verse will stop you cold in your reading, guiding you to find answers and more. Trust the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) within you. Follow the Lord’s lead.

Where I went.

This week’s verses brought me to look at myself for when I show up to do, or just arrive to be a spectator. As you know right now I am in the middle of tons of changes. One huge change in our house is health insurance. My husband will be going on Medicare, and I will need to find insurance on my own.

When we started this journey last year knowing it was going to be a challenge, everyone said just go here and do this, and there is nothing else you can do. At first that’s what we did. Then I was prompted to dig deeper. I discovered showing up to accept what we were to do, or not have insurance at all was what the status quo wanted us to do. There was more available, but we had to find the right people to ask questions. We had to learn what to ask, and be proactive in what we wanted to do, and what our needs truly were. We had to start with prayer, and listen to whom the Lord put in front of us.

When you’re younger and think about retirement, you don’t think about health insurance, cost of living going up, the needs that come with growing older. We’ve been sold on the idea that everything will just work out because we arrived at such a place as this.

We bought into the idea that arriving at retirement meant the hard part was over. This is not true. Retirement is not a destination where you stop because you made it. It’s the beginning of a different kind of work, a different kind of life. Showing up without a plan or the faith to back it up leaves you living someone else's version of what this season should look like. We arrived at retirement and discovered that arrival was just the beginning. Now we need to do more than just show up, which includes listening more closely to the Lord than ever before. Why? Because we’ve crossed into a new place we’ve never been before and only He can guide us.

This week’s passage summary.

These passages follow the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the people returning to the city after centuries of exile. There was joy for everything working out as the people thought it should. The glory of the Lord would be with them. The people thought everything would be restored to the way it should be. Yet there is one issue. The people, both those returning and those who had stayed, even after hearing the Word of God, didn’t change their ways. They brought their old habits with them, thinking all would be grand.

The people of Jerusalem arrived home, but arrival alone did not transform them. They still had to choose whether they would trust the Lord and follow His commandments.. Next Wednesday I’m diving deep into what these scriptures say about arrival versus transformation. Coming home did not make Israel worthy of what God had for them. Showing up is not the same as being present and proactive. Being in the room when the truth is spoken does not make you innocent of ignoring it.

Read along this week and join me in the chat if you have anything you’d like to discuss.

Shalom and Blessings,

Janet

The Biblio Bridge: Thriving in Uncharted Waters is a reader-supported publication. We will go through the Bible and feasts throughout scripture in one year. Each year we will do it again, digging deeper into other areas of the Bible. I want you to remember the following.

It’s not as crazy as it seems. I’m giving you the full Bible sections that are in that section for you to read the entire Bible in one year. I said read, not study. You are to pray and study the verses that you’re prompted to for your personal study and relationship with the Lord. If you don’t read the Bible, you won’t study any of it.

I’ll be doing the same and going in-depth into a few scriptures I am prompted to dig deeper into. We will have conversations about scripture in the chat.

The study follows the NKJV Chronological Bible with cross reference to the TLV and other versions. This means the scriptures are in order chronologically not like other bible versions. Yes, I will tell you the version(s) as I am writing about the section I’ve pulled out to discuss more deeply.

The goal is to read, not study every single word. It’s about praying before you read and narrowing in on what the Lord is guiding you to learn.

Read at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. Read on your app, or in your favorite Bible version. Read a couple of minutes at a time if necessary. If reading is a bit of a stretch listen to the Bible being read to you. The more you read over time, the more you’ll absorb the Words from the Lord.

The Lord wants a relationship with you, not a means to scare you off. So just pray, read, ponder, and listen.

The Biblio Bridge: Thriving in Uncharted Waters is a reader-supported publication.
